Flex Seal liquid rubber review from an actual consumer

October 11, 2011

This Flex Seal liquid rubber review was indeed written by an actual user, and is backed up by other actual users as well. You may be surprised to discover that my review won’t be as glowing as those written by others, but that is entirely due to the fact that I used my Flex Seal spray for the wrong application, and didn’t fully follow the instructions, which only made matters worse.

I’ve been enamored with the Flex Seal liquid rubber sealant since I first saw the AS Seen On TV commercials many months ago. I’ve purchased a lot of these products over the years; some have worked as well or better than advertised (Yoshiblade), and some have totally sucked (Save a blade). But, I knew without hesitation that this product would fit into the former category.

I didn’t have a need for this product until I was forced to purchase an Aerobed. You see, I live in an apartment building with my girlfriend, and a few months ago one of the other tenants brought bed bugs into the complex. This is an entirely different article for another time, but it became necessary for me to throw away the futon that I had been sleeping on, as it had become quite infested.

As a replacement, I purchased and Aerobed, which the cat quickly took to sharpening his claws upon. The decision to purchase an air mattress with a cat in the household is still a source of aggravation where my girlfriend is concerned, but I was confident that the cat would behave… of course, I was wrong, and the cat put a few holes in a couple of strategic places.

I tried superglue and Gorilla glue, as well as a few other types of glue products, but to no avail. So, I decided to try Flex Seal, and see what I could do with that product. My results have been mixed, but the product itself is amazing. This stuff really is liquid rubber in a can, or almost like liquid roofing tar in a can, as it seems to never fully dry and remains quite tacky to the touch, which made it not the deal solution for my Aerobed dilemma.

The first thing I would say with regards to this product is follow the directions on the can itself. You cannot go wrong with this strategy. This stuff will seal any cracks or small holes, thus returning the area to its waterproof state. But, don’t expect it to fix an air mattress, as this is simply the wrong application.

Also, DO NOT touch or bump into the area where you’ve sprayed the Flex Seal, as this stuff is nearly impossible to remove, even in its early liquid state. I made the mistake of rubbing my right calf against the area of the air mattress where I had just sprayed the liquid rubber, and let me tell you…; I was afraid the stuff would never come off. Finally, I was able to use a stiff brush meant for rubbing the skin off potatoes and carrots in order to get the stuff off. If it’s this difficult to remove when it’s still wet, then imagine just how impressive it will be once it has dried.

If I ever run into a roofing leakage situation, I will take advantage of Flex Seal before calling a repair company to give me a bogus, bloated estimate. With a bit of creativity and ingenuity, I believe this stuff can be used to fix nearly any minor to major roofing leakage.

Now, I don’t recommend ordering Flex Seal, or any other product for that matter, over the phone or even from the product’s website. As Seen On TV merchandisers have a nasty reputation for gouging the customer with processing charges and then tacking on additional monthly charges that the customer never authorized (OxiClean comes to mind, as this company kept sending me crap I didn’t want and kept charging my credit card each and every month…)

Instead, take a look at Amazon, which is where I bought my can of Flex Seal for $19.99 + processing, which took it to about $27. It’s a great place to get Flex Seal,a s well as other sealants should this product be sparsely available.Even after I applied many coats to my air mattress, I still have quite a bit left in the can, so it should last me years to come.

You may be able to find Flex Seal in stores, if the store has an As Seen On TV section, which many stores do these days. All the links on this page are affiliate driven, so if you make a purchase, then I get a very small commission, but you’d be crazy not to take a look at the deals available at Amazon… for any product, really…
